Review Policy
Last updated: 23 October 2026
This policy explains how reviews of businesses in the Gevu Services Directory are collected, checked, shown and removed. Gevu is a trading name of Seawolf Facilities Services Ltd (no. 15028189). We follow the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024, which bans fake reviews and hiding negative ones.
1. Who can leave a review
Anyone who has used a business in the directory. We email each reviewer a link to confirm their address. The link works for 48 hours, and the review goes live when they open it. Each email address can leave one review per business. Some older reviews show a directory contact recorded under the previous process; that record did not confirm the reviewer’s identity.
Every reviewer confirms that they used the business, that they don’t work for it or a competitor, and that nobody paid or gave them anything for the review.
2. What a review contains
A star rating from 1 to 5 and a written review are required. You can also add a headline, when you used the business, what you paid as a range (Under £100, £100–£500, £500–£1,000, £1,000–£5,000, £5,000+, or prefer not to say), and up to six quick-tap words. The words are offered in two equal groups so the form never steers you towards praise:
- What went well: Fast service, Reliable, Trustworthy, Good value, Great communication, Professional, High-quality work, On time, Friendly, Knows the cleaning industry, Easy to work with, Went the extra mile.
- What could be better: Slow to respond, Poor communication, Expensive, Missed deadlines, Poor quality, Hidden costs.
We show your first name and the first letter of your surname, your company if you add it, and everything above. We never show your email address. See our Privacy Policy for how we handle it.
3. What’s not allowed
- Fake reviews, or reviews by someone who hasn’t used the business.
- Reviews written by the business, its staff, its owners, their friends or family, or a competitor.
- Reviews paid for, or written in return for a discount, gift, entry into a draw or anything else.
- Abuse, threats, discrimination, or swearing aimed at people.
- Personal details of anyone, such as phone numbers, home addresses or health information.
- Content that isn’t about your experience of the business, such as adverts or links to other sites.
4. Rules for listed businesses
- You can ask any customer to review you, but ask happy and unhappy customers alike. Asking only customers you expect to be happy is not allowed.
- You must never pay, reward or pressure anyone for a review, or review yourself or a competitor. We refuse reviews from your own email addresses and your website’s domain.
- You can reply to any review once, publicly, from your manage page. Keep it polite and leave out personal details.
- You can report a review you believe breaks this policy. Reporting doesn’t take it down; our team decides.
- Badges, featured placement and any payment to Gevu never change, hide or reorder reviews.
5. How reviews are shown
Every review that passes the checks in section 1 is published, whatever its rating. Newest reviews show first. The rating is the plain average of all published reviews, not weighted or adjusted. “What people say” counts how often each quick-tap word was chosen, and “What people paid” counts the price ranges reviewers gave. We never edit a review’s words.
6. Google ratings
A business can show its live Google rating on its listing, in a separate “On Google” box. We only link a Google listing whose website matches the business’s own (or after our team checks it). Google decides which reviews it shares and in what order; we show them as Google provides them, don’t check, edit or store them, and never count them in our own rating or reviews.
7. Reporting and removal
Anyone can report a review or a listing using the Report links on the listing. Our team checks every report. We remove a review only if it breaks section 3, and we keep a record of which rule it broke and who decided. Disagreeing with a review, or it being negative, is not a reason to remove it. We may email the reviewer to ask for evidence that they used the business. If we remove a review in error, we put it back.
To stop misuse of the report forms, we ignore repeated reports of the same thing from the same connection, and forms sent faster than a person could fill them in.
8. Contact
